Purchasing & Downloads

What do I receive when I purchase a case?

You’ll receive instant access to downloadable PDF files containing everything you need: evidence documents, suspect profiles, questions and scoring, hints, and the complete solution. They come as three files (1 Case File, 2 Hints, 3 Solution) so you can play on a tablet or laptop without spoilers, plus a one-file print edition if you’d rather print at home.

How do I access my files after purchase?

Immediately after purchase, you’ll receive an email with download links. You can also download them from the “Downloads” section of your account. Each file can be downloaded twice within 30 days, so save the PDFs to your device the first time.

Can I re-download my files if I lose them?

Yes: each file can be downloaded twice within 30 days of your order. If you’ve used both downloads or the link has expired, contact us with your order number and we’ll help.

Do you offer refunds?

If a file won’t open or print properly, or something in the case is missing or wrong, we’ll fix it or refund you in full. Because the files arrive instantly, we don’t refund a change of mind once a case has been downloaded. See our refund policy for the details.

Playing the Games

How long does a typical case take to play?

Most cases take between 1-3 hours depending on the difficulty level and how thorough your group is. Each case listing includes an estimated duration to help you plan. Beginners typically take a bit longer, and that’s perfectly fine!

How many people can play?

Each case specifies a recommended player count. Most work well with 2-8 players, though some are designed for larger groups or solo play. Check the “Players” tag on each case for specifics.

Can I play a case more than once?

Once you know the solution, replay value is limited for you personally. However, you can absolutely host the same case for different groups of friends or family.

What if we get stuck?

Every case includes optional hints you can turn to if your group gets stuck, so you can get moving again without seeing the solution.

Do we need a “host” or can everyone play?

It depends on the case. Some cases are designed so everyone can participate equally, while others work best with a designated host who knows the solution. Each listing clearly indicates the recommended setup.

Playing on Screen or on Paper

Can I play on a tablet or laptop instead of printing?

Yes. Open the Case File on a tablet, laptop or TV and read it page by page. The Hints and Solution are separate files, so you won’t scroll past the answers by accident. Keep a pen and paper (or a notes app) handy for your theories.

What equipment do I need?

A tablet, laptop or TV, or a printer and paper. If you print, standard letter (US) or A4 (international) paper works. Some cases look enhanced in color, but black and white works perfectly for all our mysteries.

Is color printing required?

No. While color printing enhances the visual experience, every case is designed to be fully playable when printed in black and white, or on screen. All crucial information remains clear and legible.

How much paper will I need?

None if you play on screen. If you print, it depends on the case, and you can print one phase at a time as you play. Print only the Case File and keep the Hints and Solution on screen until you need them.

How long does setup take?

On screen, a couple of minutes: open the Case File and read the instructions. If you print, allow 10-15 minutes for printing and arranging the evidence.

Occasions & Gifting

Which case is best for beginners?

Look for cases marked “Easy” difficulty. These feature more straightforward clue connections and are perfect for first-time players. Cases marked “Family-friendly” are a good fit for mixed family groups.

Can I buy a case as a gift?

Absolutely! After purchase, you can forward the download email to your recipient, or print the materials yourself and present them as a physical gift. Printed and paired with snacks or themed decorations, a case also makes a good games-night gift.

Are your cases appropriate for children?

Check the “Age Group” tag on each case. Cases marked “Family-friendly” suit families. Cases marked “18+” involve more mature themes such as murder, but nothing graphic: think classic noir rather than gore.

Technical Issues

I didn’t receive my download email. What should I do?

First, check your spam or junk folder. If you still don’t see it, log into your account on our website—your downloads should be available there. If you’re still having trouble, contact us with your order number and we’ll sort it out.

The PDF won’t open. What’s wrong?

Our PDFs are standard format and should open in any PDF reader (Adobe Acrobat, Preview, Chrome, the Files app on a tablet, etc.). If you’re having trouble, try downloading a free PDF reader like Adobe Acrobat Reader. Still stuck? Contact us and we’ll help troubleshoot.
